NASA has now decided when it’s time to send the first part of its lunar mission, Artemis, from Earth.
During a press conference that day, the US space agency announced that it would take place on August 29 at the earliest. If the Space Launch System (SLS), the powerful rocket that will send an unmanned Orion capsule around the moon, is launched on August 29, the capsule will return to Earth on October 10, 42 days later.
However, NASA also has two backup dates for leaving the SLS into space. 2 and 5 September. If any of these dates occur, the trip around the moon will take 39 and 42 days, respectively, and the Orion capsule will return to Earth on October 11 or 17.

We hope to go to the moon next month
Soon, NASA’s next lunar adventure will begin for real as the first Artemis spacecraft will go there. Artemis 1 is now fully assembled at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and NASA has released a clip showing the lunar module a little closer. Artemis 1 consists of a Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion space capsule. Together, they make up the Artemis 1 craft, which is about 100 meters high. In the clip above, NASA goes into more detail about the specifications of the various parts of the craft and how it will be launched from Earth to the Moon. Artemis 1 will be an unmanned mission that will for a short time be in orbit around the Moon. Artemis 1 is supposed to follow the Artemis 2 and Artemis 3 missions, the mission that for the first time since 1972 is supposed to land humans on the moon again. That should happen sometime around 2025 according to NASA’s latest schedule. An Artemis 1 release date has not yet been set, but it is scheduled to leave Earth sometime in August. Below is an illustration showing how the Artemis 1 orbit from Earth to the Moon and back is planned.

It will be tested a bit before Artemis 1 goes away
For more than ten years, NASA and its partners have been developing a giant Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, and it launched yesterday from NASA’s Vehicle Assembly Building for a few different tests. After the tests are completed, the SLS will be returned to its hangar for any other modifications that may be required. After that, it should be ready for use to send NASA’s Artemis 1 mission into space. Artemis 1 is an unmanned lunar mission that will send an Orion capsule to the moon, which will then enter into orbit around it. Artemis 1 will be the first of NASA’s lunar missions aimed at landing a male and female astronaut on the Moon within a few years. Artemis 1, like the rest of the Artemis program, has suffered from delays. Exactly when NASA plans to send the SLS and the Orion capsule into space, there is no information yet. It is believed to happen sometime this summer at the earliest. The launch of the SLS yesterday at the Kennedy Space Center took about 11 hours and it was a very slow story. Above, you can check the time-lapse as you go faster. To coincide with the launch, NASA and veteran Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vader have released an official video of the Artemis mission. It’s set to music by Vader’s song “Invincible” and you can watch it below.

In five years, humans will hit the moon again
Now it’s clear that NASA is getting extra money from the US government to be able to land people on the moon again. If all goes as planned by NASA and the United States, at least one man and woman will land on the moon again by 2024. The project is called “Artemis” and this week the United States gave an additional $1.6 billion budget to NASA to develop What is needed for the next American landing on the moon. In the clip above, you can get an overview of how NASA plans to land astronauts on the Moon again.
