Researchers at Israel’s Ben-Gurion University of the Negev have successfully experimented with making goldfish direct a motorized aquarium at a predetermined target.
In the experiment, researchers trained six goldfish to “run” the aquarium by giving them a reward if they pointed the aquarium at a specific target. All the goldfish seemed to have heard what it was all about and after training, they were all able to direct the aquarium to the predetermined target. You can check out some examples of this in the video above.
The motorized aquarium is equipped with a camera that records if the fish is looking out in any direction and then the car starts moving in that direction. There was also a lidar system on the car that would brake the car if you got too close to any of the walls in the enclosure where the experiment was conducted.
