When the Covid pandemic hit and half the world started working remotely, Microsoft Teams got a real boost. The company saw how people started using chat and video calling more and decided to compete with Slack and similar apps with a new version for the consumer. The consumer version of Teams is called Chatt and it was introduced in Windows 11, but it didn’t get widespread. Many have also chosen to hide it in the taskbar.
For those who don’t want anything to do with teams or chat at all Windows latest good news. The preview release of the upcoming Windows update shows that Microsoft has developed a functionality that will make it possible to completely uninstall chat. It is not activated but it is still hidden.
The “RemoveChat” feature links to an API for the site, and Windows Latest speculates that it may be related to an earlier report from the Financial Times claiming that Microsoft will stop including Teams with Office in the EU, to avoid achieving competition. Slack and other competitors have complained that Teams is getting a competitive edge by integrating it into other Microsoft products like Office and Windows.
