“West Side Story – Behind the Classic Story of Four Gay Men” – QX

classic West Side Story– the musical about rival gangs Gates and Sharks, is a kind of reinterpretation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and was first staged in New York in 1957 at Winter Garden, Times Square. The characters behind the classic story are four gay men – Bernstein (Music), Sondeem (Words), Laurent (text) f Robins (acting and dancing).
West Side Story It was played on musical stages all over the world and was also made into a movie in 1961, the movie that received eleven Academy Award nominations – winning 10! Among other things for Best Picture.
After 60 years, a new movie version comes out, 2021 West Side Storyunder the care of Steven Spielberg And there is openly gay Tony Kocher (Angels in America) wrote the movie script.
In the role of Anybodys, who identifies as male and wants to be one of the men in The Jets, we see a non-binary Ezra Minas. Anybodys is also considered to be the first animated role on a musical stage when it appeared in 1957.
Steven Spielberg West Side Story It premiered in the US on December 10, 2021 – but it wasn’t the best-grossing “side story”. The new version was a huge flop. The film needed to register three billion crowns to break even, but was shown “only” just over one billion crowns. At the 2021 Academy Awards, it was nominated in seven categories (including Best Picture and Best Director) but won only one, Ariana DeBosefor Best Supporting Actress.
