Viaplay sells UK operations | Tela

The newspaper was told of the resale, which was confirmed by Viaplay, following reports in the Scottish media. In an email to Di, Viaplay press secretary Emma Anderson wrote:

“We have agreed to sell our UK business back to previous owners SSBL Ltd (Premier Sports). This is in line with the Viaplay Group strategy and plan we outlined in July, when we said our business moving forward would focus on the Nordics, the Netherlands and Viaplay Select.”

Late report

According to me, Viaplay doesn't want to say how much the previous owners will pay when they buy the company back now.

In fact, Viaplay’s Q3 report was supposed to be published on Friday, but was delayed until Thursday of this week. According to Viaplay, the company wanted at that time to continue discussions with its largest shareholders, lenders and bondholders about “a potential recapitalization of the Viaplay Group.”

CEO Change and Earnings Warning

Viaplay has had a turbulent time. In June, CEO and COO Anders Jensen was replaced by Bjørgen Madsen Lindeman, at the same time as the company issued a profit warning.

The company reported an operating profit of SEK 6.5 billion for the second quarter of this year and announced a 25 percent reduction in staff. The savings mean that several major planned productions will be postponed, such as a new TV series based on Astrid Lindgren’s “Ronja Rövardotter.”
