Currently, Covid-19, influenza, RS virus and winter sickness are spreading simultaneously in Västernorrland. Infectious disease physician Maria Tempe wants to encourage everyone in a high-risk group and those 65 or older to get vaccinated against influenza and COVID-19.
-We have plenty of vaccines and there are appointments to book throughout the county. If you get vaccinated now, you will have time to develop protection before the New Year holidays.
The groups that PHE recommends being vaccinated are those aged 65 or over, as well as those who are part of a high-risk group. Even those under the age of 65 or who are not part of a high-risk group have the opportunity to get vaccinated. Influenza is increasing
In addition to vaccination, the infection prevention doctor’s advice for Västernorrland residents is to stay home if you are sick, avoid meeting children and the elderly when you have a cold, and wash your hands well with soap and water. It can help limit the spread of infection and relieve pressure on the healthcare system.
– The burden of COVID-19 in hospitals continues, but has decreased compared to what it appeared to be in November. However, the number of patients being hospitalized with influenza is currently increasing, and we have also received several children hospitalized with the RS virus in the past month, says Maria Tempe.
