Updates are faster and more efficient in Windows 11 24H2

Windows 11 24H2 was released recently and it has a lot of news. One of these means that all the small and large updates that Microsoft sends out at regular intervals will be installed faster and with less load on the computer. Microsoft's Steve DiAcetis documents the changes in a new file Blog posts.

Within 24 hours, Windows Update goes through component lists (so-called He appearsfiles) in parallel rather than sequentially, and the result is stored in a cache so that components referenced by different packages do not trigger additional read operations. This speeds up the installation process of popular monthly updates by more than 40 percent according to Microsoft tests. Reboot time during installation is also more than 30 percent faster.

The amount of working memory used by Windows Update now varies automatically based on available memory, so the function doesn't slow down the rest of your PC, and the improvements mean the processor is loaded 15-25 percent less than before.

Microsoft has also made changes that ensure feature updates are 200MB smaller on average, including by downloading only the parts that are actually needed – for example, software that a user has already updated via the Microsoft Store is not downloaded again.
