UN Security Council calls for crisis meeting after North Korea launches latest robot test. The robot was a new type of robot that could be launched underwater from a submarine, according to North Korean nations.
Diplomatic sources told AFP that the extraordinary summit of the Security Council will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, at the initiative of Britain and the United States.
North Korea on Tuesday tested a type of short-range ballistic robot that can be launched underwater from a submarine, the English acronym SLBM, according to the South Korean military. This was now confirmed by North Korea’s official news agency, which reported that it was a new type of SLBM robot with “a lot of advanced control technologies”.
The robot is said to have been shot in the sea east of the Korean Peninsula. It covered a distance of 590 km and reached its maximum height of 60 km, according to a South Korean source told AFP.
The White House stresses that the latest test highlights the urgent need to start a dialogue with the North Korean government.
Our offer to meet anywhere and at any time remains unconditionally, says White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki.
In recent weeks, North Korea has tested several different types of robots. Among other things, the state claims to have tested a so-called hypersonic robot, a technology touted as a superweapon of the future.
