The Ukrainian army said: “The details of the attack will be revealed as soon as possible, and the result is dozens of dead and wounded among the occupiers, including senior naval commanders,” claiming that the attack came during a meeting of the Russian Navy leadership.
Ukrainian military intelligence chief Kirolo Budanov said at least nine people were killed in the attack, information that has not been independently confirmed.
The attack occurred on the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in the occupied Crimean Peninsula on Friday morning, and led to the headquarters beginning to burn.
Information about the attack first came from pro-Russian officials, and was later confirmed by the Ukrainian military.
The Russian-appointed governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozjayev, in occupied Crimea on Saturday warned of another Ukrainian attack and urged people to seek shelter.
“Close your windows properly and stay away from them,” he wrote on Telegram.
Later on Saturday, Razvozgaev said that parts of a missile fell on a sidewalk in Sevastopol. Among other things, the ferry movement must have stopped for an hour and then resumed.
