Fredrik Eklund, a real estate broker at Douglas Elliman and star of TV show Million Dollar Listing New York, is selling his apartment in New York for $6.5 million (£4.7 million).
Eklund bought the apartment at 290 West Street with his husband, artist Derek Kaplan, in 2014.
He announced on his Instagram that they’re seeking a new tenant for the space, which is also on the rental market for $22,500 (£16,400) per month.
Eklund confirmed the move to Curbed, noting that since his family has expanded – he and Kaplan welcomed twins Mila and Fredrik Jr. via surrogate at the end of 2017 – they’ve outgrown the three-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment.
They also own a large home in Connecticut, which is featured frequently on Eklund’s Instagram.
The 2,241 sq ft Tribeca apartment is located in the Adjmi & Andreoli-designed building that sits right at the neighbourhood’s north-western edge.
The apartment was designed by Paris Forino and has plenty of luxurious touches, including a marble-drenched master bathroom, a Molteni Dada open kitchen with fixtures from Waterworks, as well as customised bookshelves, closets and fireplace.
Other features include dressing areas with LED lighting, white oak herringbone flooring, a wine fridge, a pantry with a brand-new vented side-by-side washer and dryer, Danish Acoustic speakers throughout, a 3,000 pound marble-tub, a steam shower and heated floors in the master bathroom.
It also has a 24-hour doorman, concierge, private storage and a gym looking out onto the water.
The listing describes the apartment’s 50 linear feet facing the Hudson River and the fact that it comes with “arguably one of New York’s best sunsets”.
Eklund shared a series of stunning photos to his Instagram on Friday.
“Good bye to our apartment … you were good to us,” he wrote across one photo showing off the New York skyline.
“All the good memories,” he wrote in another image capturing the luxurious home.
He is listing the home along with fellow Elliman brokers John Gomes and Lisa Interdonato.
Eklund is originally from Sweden, where at the age of 23 he founded an Internet company with over 45 employees, and went on to work for the investment bank SEB in Stockholm, London, Singapore and Tokyo before beginning his work in New York City.
In 2004, before arriving in New York City, Eklund acted in a number of pornographic films under the pseudonym Tag Eriksson.
Eklund has closed over $5 billion in residential real estate. He became managing director at the New York City real estate firm CORE Group Marketing and in 2010, alongside his business partner John Gomes, managing director at Prudential Douglas Elliman, the largest real estate brokerage on the East Coast. Eklund also started the top-selling team at Elliman.
In February 2008 he sold an apartment to Cameron Diaz, in August 2009 to John Legend and in July 2010 to Daniel Craig.
He is one of three New York City brokers starring in Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing New York, which is in its sixth season.
DealMakerz thinks the apartment will be snapped up quickly, particularly given Eklund’s high profile and clever use of Instagram.
Estate agents are increasingly using social media as a way of reaching out to as many potential buyers as possible.
