The most common group of patients who get tubes in the ear are children who have recurrent infections or fluid in the middle ear. They often waited a long time for the procedure.
– It is very great that we can help so many people and that, as a small hospital, we are doing really well, says ö, Chief Physician, Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic.
Planning and teamwork
One explanation for success is good teamwork and effective planning of operations.
We perform surgeries on a large number of patients in one day, approximately twenty people. It's about all parts of the process that have to be successful – from recall to surgery to when patients go home, explains Margaret Cioli-Salvik, director of the Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic.
-Then we have very good communication within the team, which facilitates a lot. She says this makes her safe and secure.
Double the number of operations
A new operating room has recently been opened, specially adapted for tube insertion. It will increase the capacity of the dispensary.
The new operating room is designed primarily for this type of intervention and it works very well.
So I think we will do more operations this year. It is difficult to determine the exact number of people. It depends a little bit on what the patient flow is like, but we have the capacity to do twice as many surgeries.
