According to Deutsche Welle News Channel The two young men tried to escape from the bear, and at the same time the woman called the police via the emergency number on her mobile phone.

The emergency center received the call just before 4 p.m. on Tuesday last week, and during the call emergency personnel heard the bear attack and injure the woman. The call was then disconnected.

When emergency personnel arrived on scene an hour later, they found the woman dead and the still very aggressive bear nearby. The bear was immediately euthanized.

Her friend, who was left in shock, recounted how the bear attacked the 19-year-old, dragging her for 10 metres before the woman fell down a cliff. Even the bear was involved in the case.

There are an estimated 8,000 bears in Romania. This has led to an increase in attacks and conflicts. Since In 2016, at least 14 people were killed.Associated with brown bear attacks in southeastern Europe.

In Romania, political voices are now rising to reduce bear numbers through increased hunting.

Local animal rights groups have opposed this, and instead want increased education efforts, electric fences and enhanced management as an alternative to reducing the bear population in the area.
