Participation of the Swedish Transport Administration in the European Union of Railways Promotes research and innovation in Swedish Railways by developing solutions for a fossil-free transport system, efficient travel and transport for all and robust and safe infrastructure in a sustainable society.
The European partnership for railway research and rail innovation, Europe’s Rail, began in November 2021. The vision of European Rail, abbreviated as EU-Rail, is to realize a flexible, intermodal, reliable, high-capacity European rail network based on a cross-border, integrated system. Collaboration with internationally recognized parties supports and accelerates the use of digitalization opportunities, the development of new technology and innovations. The goal is to improve and develop the railway system to meet the transportation challenges and needs of tomorrow.
Taking home the knowledge, as well as the opportunity to uncover Swedish research, is of paramount importance. Research and innovation is an important tool for building the efficiency of the future, developing methods and models and demonstrating new systems solutions that link technology, commercial benefits and societal benefit in the field of transportation.
Research and development activities are fundamental to the ability of the Swedish Transport Administration to solve its tasks. It also contributes to cooperation, knowledge development and efficiency provision. Our involvement in Rail Europe thus strengthens our operations but also Swedish business and academia, which in turn contributes to growth and new jobs, says Director General of the Swedish Transport Administration, Roberto Maiorana.
