There won’t be another model with Mercedes’ F1 powertrain. A sequel to One will be all-electric.

There won’t be another model with Mercedes’ F1 powertrain. A sequel to One will be all-electric.

It all began in 2017 when Mercedes-AMG premiered the One supercar. Then they told us they were going to do something crazy like put a combustion engine from Formula 1 in the car, and many people scratched their heads. Mercedes also did this for a few years because the car was delayed several times due to all the problems. Now it’s ready and here for real, but when Chris Harris test-drives it at Top Gear, both models he’s driven are still wrecked.

We have now found out from Mercedes-AMG that they are definitely not going to build another F1 powered supercar. If there was a sequel to the one, it would probably be all-electric. F1 technology is good, but it gets a little complicated when you have to put everything into a street car that needs to be reliable and not need to be serviced every two hours.

One has a turbocharged 1.6-liter V6 and no fewer than four electric motors under the hood. 275 copies will be made in all.
