In the fall, Volta Trucks received an initial order for 1,470 electric trucks from DB Schenker. The company is now raising SEK 2.5 billion to fund technology development and manufacturing, Dagens Industri writes.
Volta Trucks was recently founded in 2019 by Carl-Magnus Norden and Kjell Walöenmen. The main office is located in Sweden, but the development took place in the UK, where the first prototypes were also developed, while mass production will be carried out in Steyr, Austria.
The Volta Zero is designed for low city traffic – as it is in a car – to make it easier to get in and out. There are sliding doors in the cab and the driver’s seat in the middle to provide better visibility all around, plus there are cameras that look around the entire vehicle.
The truck has two axles with a payload capacity of 8.6 tons. Then the total weight reaches 16 tons. It can take up to 16 pallets on the pallet.
The Volta battery has a capacity of 160 to 200 kWh, giving a range of 150 to 200 km at a top speed of 80 km per hour.
We are currently building 25 test cars. They will be tested and then eight of them will go to clients in London and Paris, Carl-Magnus Norden tells Di.
The company has now raised €230 million, roughly SEK 2.5 billion, primarily from existing investors as well as New York-based Luxor Capital and investment firm B-Flexion.
The next step is to have Production Verification Vehicles in customer operations. We aim to have about a hundred cars ready for customers in London and Paris in September, says Karl-Magnus Norden for Dee.
