A few weeks ago, the latest version of Windows 11, version 22H2, started to circulate widely among users. The update includes new features like tabs in Explorer and a new focus mode, but shortly after the update went live, Microsoft pulled the brakes due to performance issues in games.

The reason for the drama is that the update caused a graphics performance developer mode to be activated, which in turn resulted in lower performance and glitches stammer. Therefore, Microsoft has chosen to temporarily block the entire ability of users to update the operating system through Windows Update. This lock was released about a week ago and now a complete solution to the issue has arrived.

The update was released yesterday and it is called “KB5020044”. Microsoft didn’t say which games and apps were affected by this bug, but it fixed the problem in general. It can be installed either through Windows Update or manually, by downloading the update from the Update Catalog from Microsoft.
