Vattenfall and Stromma Group are investing in the conversion to silent, emission-free electric operation of Stromma’s sightseeing boats. First, there are the Amsterdam Canal boats, which are scheduled to be electrified by 2025.
Vattenfall and Stromma Group, which operate in six countries with nineteen destinations such as Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, Oslo, Helsinki and Stockholm, have entered into a partnership with the aim of electrifying Stromma’s boat fleet to ensure fossil-free operation. The first collaborative project will be the electrification of canal boats in Amsterdam, with Vattenfall providing the battery system for emission-free operation of the city’s canal boats, which will become mandatory from 2025.
– The partnership with Stromma is a great example of how we can drive shared electrification forward and in the long term to enable a completely zero emissions fleet. Our concept of ‘Power as a Service’ is based on the fact that we own, operate and take responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the electrical infrastructure. This means our customers can focus on their core business, says Maria Lindbergh, responsible for electrification of heavy transport at Vattenfall Network Solutions.
We look forward to collaborating with Vattenfall to electrify our boats in Amsterdam as a first step. “We are facing a significant adjustment of our operations, and the partnership is an important step in our ongoing sustainability work,” says Patrick Sjöberg, President and CEO of the Stromma Group.
