This summer, King Carl XVI Gustaf drove his student gift – a Volvo 1800S from 1966. Now the car is being sold at a Swedish auction.
In 1966, the 20-year-old took over The Crown Prince graduated from the private boarding school in Sigtuna and received a Volvo 1800S sports car as a birthday and temporary gift.
The king kept the car for two years, and since then it has been traded nine times. Among other things, the artist Gösta Linderholm is said to have owned the car. Sometimes it is wrapped with a personalized license plate bearing the text “REGAL”.
Last summer the king led Rally King in Åland in a Volvo as he celebrated 50 years on the throne and 60 years behind the wheel. The Queen rode beside him, her bouquet still on the hat rack.
This unique Volvo 1800S is now sold across Carweb Auctions. The car is in working condition with the original engine. However, the brake servo was disconnected by the Volvo Museum workshop when the car was repaired before the King drove the car.
– Charming and vintage condition With clear potential for improvement, but the potential can easily be overshadowed by an irresistibly heavy source, regardless of whether one has a monarchist or republican attitude toward the car enthusiast’s view of life, says Peter Sundfeldt at Bilweb Auctions.
margin: The Volvo P1800 is the model that most Swedes know, but the truth is that most don’t call it a P1800. The letter P indicates that the car belongs to the first models produced by Jensen Motors in England. Swedish-made cars are called 1800S where the S stands for Sweden.
