Winter sickness is currently common on the Greek island of Corfu.
In the group of five friends, everyone fell ill and two had to go to the hospital for drip.
We hear when people vomit in rooms at night, we hear when people vomit in the corridor outside and they close the hotel pool. Fanny Pearson, 23, says our vacation was ruined.
The five finally recovered but will go home on Sunday. Friends report that the holiday turned into a nightmare when one of the gang members started feeling ill and then the others became infected.
They didn’t know that a virus was spreading on the island, and they thought it was the tour operator toy I must inform them.
– Tui has not provided any information before nor yet, and they keep sending people here, says friend Emilia Johansson.
They are aware that the virus has spread on the island, but no concrete measures have been taken so far, says Adam Gyurki, TUI’s director of communications.
As with all viruses, good hand hygiene is the advice. It may happen that we will know if there is a greater difference. Adam Gyurki says: We are following the evolution carefully.
“Scattered all over the island”
The group of friends initially thought they had food poisoning, but after speaking to the hotel front desk, they learned that norovirus had been circulating throughout August.
– They claim the virus is spreading all over the island, says Emilia Johansson.
Fanny Pearson is disappointed that the hotel has not taken stricter measures to prevent the spread of infection.
They put a note at the reception and said the virus was there, but in the dining room people still stood and made noises with each other, says Fanny Pearson.
The gang returns home to Sweden on Sunday, but although they are all healthy now, they are finding it hard to enjoy the holiday.
According to 1177, you can have short-term protection after illness, but you do not become immune and therefore can be affected by norovirus multiple times during the same season.
We don’t want to get infected again, says Fanny Pearson.
