The financial measures taken should, among other things, make it easier for people to stay home from work if symptoms develop.
– With these supportive measures, we hope to be able to contribute to curbing the spread of infection and thus avoid imposing more restrictive contagion control restrictions, said Finance Minister Michael Damberg (S) at the government’s press conference.
Valid from Wednesday
The list of measures includes canceled medical certificates for carrier allowance, temporary parental allowance in case, for example, school closures or for some seriously ill children recently, and temporary cancellation of qualifying period deductions for employees and the self-employed.
Employers with unusually high sickness costs must also be compensated. Additionally, a tax-free parking feature has been introduced to reduce congestion on public transportation.
The support will be included in an additional adjustment budget that will be put on Parliament’s table after the end of the year, but those bonuses will be retroactive from Wednesday, Damberg says.
The assistance will apply between December 8 and March 31, 2022.
It is also clear that event support will be extended.
Almega: Not enough
Employers’ organization Almega welcomes the announcement of compensation for high sickness costs. At the same time, more measures are needed, including further deferral of tax payments to companies.
“In addition, I have no information about support for the modification. The support covers some fixed costs, which of course remain even if the company’s operations are limited by the measures,” says Andreas Åström, head of business policy at Almega, in a press release.
