Last fall, Britain’s Liam Kirk made it to Hanhal’s Kings A team in Hockeyettan. Kirk is the first Englishman to be drafted into the NHL, but with series matches in both England and the USA canceled, the 21-year-old applied to Sweden.
– It’s always a bit difficult when a player from other countries comes here. Then he wasn’t allowed to show off and play in front of the crowd, but Liam is an artist on the ice, says Peter Olsson, director of marketing and PR at Hanhals IF.
Great Britain finally celebrated their World Cup victory on Wednesday night, their first in 59 years after regular time. Liam Kirk became a hero with his two goals.
Kirk Hannels and Kongsbacka left in mid-January.
He entered a phase where things were going very badly for us and he gave the whole team a boost. Then we didn’t know anything about Liam, or like we know now, we didn’t know him then. It’s entertaining and wonderfully artistic.
The career is looking bright for Liam Kirk and as it stands now, he won’t be back at Hanhals next season. But the Briton made an impression on the team, which is now looking to the future.
– He’s on Elite Prospect now and for us as a club it’s fun to get a little excited. Now we’re mentioned everywhere because Kirk played with us here in Hannels. It’s very interesting, says Peter Olson.
