Valve’s Counter-Strike series of games has become hugely popular since its first releases in the early 2000s. The latest version of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was released in 2012, and although it was over a decade late, it has millions of players and only hit about two weeks ago. Record the number of active players at the same time.
The title has received a number of major updates, including the introduction of a new game mode at the same time that the title became free-to-play in 2018, as well as more frequent improvements and changes in terms of paths, weapons, and environments. Now a much larger change is expected, as speculation includes both a move to a new game engine and a new sequel.
In the latest Nvidia driver there is a new definition file for the game “Counter-Strike 2”, which in turn is associated with two executable files: “csgos2.exe” and “cs2.exe”. What exactly they’re going for is unknown, but one theory is that Valve is planning to port the game to the Source 2 game engine. Currently, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive uses the older Source engine, as a Source 2 sequel didn’t debut until 2015.
Others think the references mean nothing at all and are leftovers from an update back in 2014. Last but not least, there are third track, which indicates that this is a sign that a whole new game is in the works. It is claimed to be a modern e-sports title that, among other things, has more advanced features Good luck than before. Valve has not commented on the data and whether any of the many theories are true remains to be seen.
Would you like to see a sequel to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, or will the original still run?
