The first grain ship from Ukraine has reached its final destination. The Turkish-flagged ship Polarent has docked in the Turkish port of Derince near Izmir with about 12,000 tons of corn. The ship set sail from Chornomorsk, Ukraine, on Friday.
Four more ships that left Ukraine on Sunday are expected to arrive in Turkey on Monday evening, according to the Turkish Defense Ministry.
Two ships carrying corn and soybeans are said to have left ports in Ukraine on Monday. One, Sakura, is going to Italy while the other, Arizona, is going to Iskenderum in southern Turkey.
The ship “Razzoni”, which left Ukraine a week ago, has not yet reached its final destination in Lebanon. The ship is said to be anchored off the coast of southern Turkey.
On Saturday, the first foreign-flagged ship since February was called to a Ukrainian port.
According to the agreement between Ukraine and Russia, the safe passage of cargo ships from three ports, Odessa, Pevdenny and Chornomorsk, through the Black Sea must be ensured.
So far, a total of 12 ships have obtained a permit to transport grain.
Ukraine is one of the world’s largest exporters of wheat, corn and sunflower oil, but exports have fallen since the Russian invasion in February.
