From January 1, 2023, the national identity card application fee will return to the original level of SEK 400. This applies regardless of when the time is booked.
In May, police authorities introduced the government to a reduced application fee for a national identity card.
“We wanted the government to lower the application fee in order to get more citizens to apply for a national identity card instead of a passport, because the availability of that was good and the delivery time was significantly shorter,” says Per Engstrom, national leadership director for the National Passport Company for Special Events. .
He considers the decision to have had an impact – the number of applications for national identity cards has increased dramatically and thus the pressure on passports has decreased.
Temporarily reduced application fees have yielded results and the pressure to apply for a passport has decreased. Therefore, we asked the government to decide to return the application fee to 400 SEK, which it has now done, says Per Engstrom.
Valid for all times as of January 1, 2023
If you have an appointment booked from 1 January, you will have to pay the original application fee of SEK 400. This also applies if you book the appointment before the end of the year.
