Technology World 2024: Artificial Intelligence Now Makes Computer Smart Now

Your computer gets smart. That's what almost every manufacturer has been telling us for at least the past year. Over the course of 2024, we will see several demonstrations of integrating the powers of artificial intelligence into computers. But the question that arises once we have it is when we will see a practical application of AI on the computer itself.

Perhaps that's the answer to that question we saw at the Lenovo Tech Word 2024 technology event in Seattle on Tuesday US time.

Here, Lenovo introduced Lenovo AI Now, a native AI agent that turns your computer into a personal assistant.

The AI now includes a Local Large Language Model (LLM) based on Meta's Llama 3.1, which enables real-time interaction with the user's personal knowledge base, which can consist of text and images on the computer. AI can now find information and answers in various documents based on plain text questions. Just as we know it, for example, from ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot. But from your own documents – and without relying on cloud processing.

Lenovo AI Now also integrates PC Assistant capabilities that allow users to configure their devices using natural language. For example, users can adjust settings like screen brightness or activate productivity tools, all by simply asking Lenovo AI Now.

Initially, AI Now will ship on Lenovo's latest devices, but it will also be available for existing devices. The assistant uses both the CPU, GPU, and potentially an NPU. To run AI Now, your computer must have at least 32GB of RAM, but work is underway to lower the requirement to 16GB. And of course it has to be from Lenovo…
