Prime Minister of Sweden Magdalena Anderson (S) Minister of Defense Peter Hultqvist (S) He was informed of the government's decision during a press conference in Boden.
The decision means that the Swedish Armed Forces will have to appoint 120 trainers for the training conducted in Great Britain. The Swedish grant is valid for the period from 12 August to 31 December 2022.
A maximum of 60 Swedish trainers will be in Great Britain at any one time, which is considered to have little impact on other operations of the armed forces, according to a press release from the government office.
The aim is to enable Ukraine to maintain and enhance its defence capabilities. In total, around 10,000 Ukrainian citizens are expected to take part in the training in the UK. After their basic military training, they will serve in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The training is being undertaken at the initiative of the United Kingdom, which has invited the nations of the British-led Joint Expeditionary Force, as well as Canada, to participate.
“It is extremely important that the outside world continues to support Ukraine in the country’s struggle for sovereignty and self-determination. It is important that Sweden participates in this work and that Swedish trainers contribute to strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities,” says Defence Minister Peter Hultqvist in the press release.
