Sweden takes historic gold at the World Cup in vaulting – a great victory

Sweden has never won a World Cup gold in team jumping.

But already after three riders, the Swedish national team achieved a historically superior victory.

It’s incredible, says Malin Baryard Johnson.

Sweden won Olympic gold and a European medal, but did not win World Cup gold in team jumping. At Danish Herning, the Swedish national team had a superb position before making the decision.

Sweden was late on opening days, and if three out of four Swedish jockeys rode flawlessly, no team could threaten.

But it was a difficult path. When it came time for Sweden’s first round, there was no flawless rider, but Henrik von Eckermann And King Edward succeeded in what no one had done before.

Although the horse was scared when he was going to the ring.

– The sound and the headlights in there, he didn’t really want to get in. He was a little scared. He was a little nervous at first, but I tried to calm him down as much as I could but not too much. He did great and I was a bit lucky in the middle of the three, but maybe that’s what we need today, von Eckermann tells SVT.

Malin Baryard-Johnson and Indiana were next to Sweden, stopping at four fouls after an injury, thus keeping the team in the lead.

When it came time for Sweden to penultimate, Jens Fredrikson had the opportunity to secure the gold medal for Sweden with an impeccable jump. Big Brother Fredrikson succeeded and Sweden took a historic gold with one rider to spare.

– This is so unbelievable that it is hard to believe. When do you win the gold medal with only one contestant left?

Now we will celebrate

– Now we’re going to celebrate tonight, and then damn, one of us will win an individual gold medal. Henrik shouldn’t feel safe, Jens Fredricson tells SVT.

– Wonderful, what a relief. Incredible effort from the entire team. The way we did too, we wanted to drive from day one and get it in our hands and we managed it all the way, says von Eckermann.

The Netherlands took the silver before Great Britain.
