Ryan Tubridy has been announced as host of a new mid-morning show on Virgin Radio UK.
The former Late Late presenter, who was axed from RTÉ Radio One's 9am slot in the wake of the payments controversy, will start the show on January 4.
Tubridy made the announcement on the station's Chris Evans Breakfast Show, describing it as “absolutely surreal” and saying he was “very excited”.
His new show, which will be broadcast from 10am to 1pm weekdays, will be simulcast on Q102 in Dublin.
Tubridy will also present a 'dedicated Irish weekend show' from London via Wireless Ireland Group's regional station network – Dublin's Q102 and FM104, Cork's 96FM, Limerick's Live95FM and LMFM.
“I couldn't be more excited to start this new chapter with Virgin Radio,” Tubridy said in a statement.
“New city, new station, new beginnings. I love radio and what a joy it is to tune in to the legendary Chris Evans every morning. It's been a pleasure getting to know my new friends at Virgin Radio, all of whom have been friendly, engaging and a lot of fun.
“And many thanks to the London Irish who have made me feel so welcome in recent weeks. On a personal note, this is a great day for my wonderful family who I hope to make proud, as well as the people who have advised me so well recently and brought me to this moment.
“To my listeners, wherever you are, I encourage you to join us on this adventure every weekday morning. There is so much fun to be had.”
The announcement followed an Instagram post on the former RTÉ broadcaster's account on Thursday morning, in which he told his 255,000 followers that he was in “the back of a taxi in London heading to a building near the River Thames where I'm going to do something amazing”. Big announcement.”
Tubridy left RTÉ in the summer after weeks of controversy relating to revelations that the organization had publicly underreported his salary.
Mike Cass, Virgin Radio UK Content Director, welcomed the presenter to the station.
“I'm thrilled to have Ryan join the fantastic roster of broadcasters at Virgin Radio UK.
“He has been Ireland's leading broadcaster for years and Virgin Radio will bring his warmth, humor and unique charisma to UK audiences properly for the first time.
“He will be the perfect mid-morning companion and the perfect partner for Chris Evans.”
