David and Simon Reuben
have been ranked second in The Sunday Times ‘The UK’s Richest 1000’ 2019.
The newspaper estimates
the Reuben Brothers wealth at £18.664bn, up by a significant £3.568bn compared
to last year when they occupied fourth position.
It attributes their wealth
to their Internet and property activities, referring particularly to what it
calls a ‘buying spree’ of £1bn of London
property last year and sales of stakes in their Global Switch data centres.
First in this year’s rich list was Siri And Gopi Hinduja and family with £22bn, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe – last year’s richest person – in third with £18.15bn. It’s certainly a close run thing at the top and few would bet against the Reuben Brothers taking the top slot in 2020 – nor, for that matter, continuing their buying spree of prime central London property.
