You knew she had been on the throne for some time, but do you actually know how long?
Queen Elizabeth II sat on the British throne for a full 63 years. She was only 26 years old when her father, King George IV, died and she in turn became queen.
It also broke the record. She became the longest-serving head of state in Britain. Congratulations are certainly in order.
To celebrate Elizabeth, we'll look at some of the important things that happened in the world during her long career as Queen. In 63 years, a lot has happened.
Berlin Wall
In 1989, the legendary wall that divided Berlin in two fell. Elizabeth had then been queen for a full 37 years. She must have been happy that the people in Berlin were free.
excitement
Michael Jackson's breakthrough song excitementThe music video for the song premiered in 1983. By then, Elizabeth had been on the British throne for 31 years. Maybe she listened to the song when she was at home partying alone. At least we hope so.
Woodstock
The legendary Woodstock rock festival was held in the USA in 1969. By that time, Elizabeth had ruled Great Britain for 17 years. We're a little unsure if she'd like to be there among all the half-naked fans.
Landing on the moon
In 1969, man took his first steps on the moon. It feels like a very long time ago, but not for Elizabeth. She had been queen by then for 17 years already.
Martin Luther King
In 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. gave his world-famous speech about the dream he had. Elizabeth had been queen for 11 years at the time. We like to imagine her in the audience enthusiastically cheering Martin on.
Jailhouse Rock
Elvis Presley's world famous song Jailhouse Rock It was released in 1957. Elvis was only 22 years old at the time. Elizabeth, on the other hand, had already ruled Britain for five years. It's unfortunate that Elvis is no longer with us today, but Elizabeth is here, and she's not going anywhere!
Once again we have to say – congratulations Elizabeth!
