Producer Wants To Build Penthouse Above London Theatre

Theatre producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh is applying for consent to build a five bedroomed penthouse flat at the top of London’s Novello Theatre, it is reported.

The penthouse flat will occupy the top two floors of the theatre with one floor comprising two bedroomed ensuite accommodation for the owner’s use and the other floor comprising three bedroomed ensuite guest accommodation. There will also be a private sitting room, a separate large sitting room with bar and kitchen facilities, a study and utility rooms plus a roof garden. One of the rooms will feature a raised platform offering views through the tree tops towards the Strand.

Mackintosh is the producer of famous shows such as Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, Mary Poppins, Oliver!, Miss Saigon and Cats. He is  also the owner of the Novello Theatre as well as a number of other London theatres.

The planning application says that the flat is intended to be used as Mackintosh’s personal residence – a kind of ‘living above the shop’ but on a grand scale. However, assuming consent is granted, it is also likely to be a unique and desirable penthouse of significant value on the high end London market.
