Persimmon Appoint HR Supremo As New Director

Housebuilders Persimmon Plc have appointed Claire Thomas as an independent non-executive Director as from 1 August. She will also serve on the company’s Remuneration and Nomination Committees.

Thomas has been Senior Vice President HR at GlaxoSmithKline Plc for more than 10 years and has over 28 years experience in global HR environments including advising boards, supporting remuneration and nomination committees, succession planning, strategic planning and corporate restructuring.

Roger Devlin, Chairman of Persimmon, said: “We are building a new Persimmon with progressive changes being made to our customer care, governance and remuneration.  As part of that plan, we are further strengthening our board and remuneration committee with the appointment of a new, forward-thinking independent director with a strong track record in a highly respected global organisation.”

It seems increasingly clear that the so-called Persimmon bonus scandal, which led to the departure of CEO Jeff Fairburn earlier this year, has left a lasting impression on the company’s board. The nature of this appointment appears to be a very positive step towards heading off any similar problems in the future.
