Did you expect one OnePlus 9T this year? Then we have the sad news – OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has confirmed that they won’t be introducing any new product in the T series later in 2021.
In a presentation where TechRadar was present, Lau said, “We will have a new product to launch, but this year we won’t be launching any product in the T Series.”
It’s not clear which product Lau is referring to, and this could be a new iteration of their Nord series, or the leaked product OnePlus 9 RT It is apparently a mid-range T version OnePlus 9R which has not been released in many regions.
This means we’ll likely have to wait until OnePlus 10 before we see a new flagship phone from the brand, which we don’t currently expect to debut until the beginning of 2022.
This news has already been leaked from various sources, but this is the first time we are hearing the information directly from OnePlus.
OnePlus often introduces a new flagship device at the start of the year and then it’s followed by another iteration – known as the T-Series – which was introduced about six months later.
For example, it was introduced OnePlus 8 In April 2020 then followed by one OnePlus 8T In October of the same year.
New software changes for OnePlus
Lau also commented on the company’s integration with other mobile phone manufacturer Oppo.
OnePlus and Oppo have now announced that they will integrate their code bases between both manufacturers and that they will therefore combine OxygenOS with ColorOS. This means that you will see this unnamed software platform on future OnePlus and Oppo phones.
In a blog post, Lau said, “By bringing together our software resources to focus on a unified, up-to-date operating system for both OnePlus and Oppo devices globally, we will combine the strengths of both into a more powerful OS: a fast and seamless experience of OxygenOS, stability and many more ColorOS features.” .”
The company has also confirmed that its 2022 flagship device – which, although not confirmed, will likely be called the OnePlus 10 – will be the first device from the company to use the new software.
They will then roll it out with future software updates for current devices from OnePlus 8 onwards. We haven’t heard yet about which Oppo products will get the new software, but we’ll update this article as soon as we hear more.
Why does OnePlus choose this route?
Perhaps the global shortage of chipsets is the reason why OnePlus chose not to introduce any new mobile phone in the last months of 2021.
Samsung didn’t deliver the Galaxy Note 21 due to a similar issue, and while Lau hasn’t commented on the reasons, we think this may be part of the reason the company hasn’t introduced the OnePlus 9T.
Then we also have the fact that OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro are almost as good mobile phones. The latter ranks very high in our ranking of the best mobile phones, so the company may not see any reason to introduce the OnePlus 9T.
As the company’s interest now shifts to other areas, such as mid-range phones and its new integration with Oppo, we may see some changes in focus on OnePlus mobiles in the coming years.
