Nvidia has released Important security updates of Geforce drivers for both Windows and Linux, urging users to update as soon as possible.
The updates patch eight previously unknown security flaws, all of which are classified as critical and allow hackers to take control of the entire system. The flaws were found in the software for all versions of Geforce: Geforce, Nvidia RTX, Quadro, NVS, and Tesla.
The company did not reveal whether the vulnerabilities have already been exploited in attacks against users, but now that they become known, it will not be long before someone starts doing so. Therefore it is better to update immediately.
For Windows, fixes are included in driver versions 566.03 and later, and for Linux, versions 565.57.01, 550.127.05, and 535.216.01 apply, depending on the product family to which the graphics card belongs. For users with Pro cards, different version numbers apply – more information is available on the Nvidia website.
Nvidia notes that manufacturers of computers with Geforce integrated graphics can issue driver updates themselves, and some have chosen to include these security fixes in the Windows driver with build numbers 565.92, 561.03, 556.35, or 553.05.
