STCC was forced to cancel this year’s season when the electric cars that would participate in the race were not ready in time. Now STCC can announce that the first new car is ready. Yesterday it was displayed to the public during Newsrace in Ring Knutstorp.
– finally! Now the pieces of the puzzle are starting to fall into place, and it’s a great day for everyone involved when we can finally unveil the first completed STCC car of the new electric generation, says Mickey Byrne, STCC CEO.
The car is based on the Tesla Model 3 and was designed by EPWR. It is rear-wheel drive and has a 550-horsepower engine. All race cars have a 45 kWh battery. Top speed is around 300 km/h and it should accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than three seconds.
The car features an exterior made of raw natural composite, a high-performance natural fiber used in Formula 1, among other things. At the same time, it is as durable as carbon fibre, but with a much lower impact on the environment.
The cars used in STCC are based on the original chassis of the model in question. They are then modified for use in competition by EPWR. In addition to the Tesla Model 3, EPRW will also build STCC cars such as the BMW i4, Cupra Born and Volkswagen ID.3.
– Although it may not have been lost on anyone that we have gone through a difficult period of delay, we are delighted that we have finally been able to start delivering a completely new generation of stunning and durable race cars, says Micky Jansson, CEO of EPWR.
– We are delivering the first cars to STCC in the coming weeks, which then delivers them to the teams. Now we look forward to the upcoming tests on Swedish tracks where we will be able to collect a large amount of data in our ongoing development work for 2024 and beyond, continues Miki Jansson.
Ready for 2024
The new cars will compete in next year’s STCC season. The race date will be announced by STCC later this year. Obviously there will be a mix of city competitions in Helsingborg and Gothenburg as well as races on several traditional tracks.
