Are your dancer’s legs shaking?

You can now use both Bug and “gnussa” in the Foxtrot at a dance band evening in Bredden.

If you succeed, promise more opportunities.

Some remember it as if it was yesterday. Others were not born until then.

Talking about dance band nights. First in the Medborgarhuset in Centralvägen and later also in the Zamora restaurant in the 1980s and 1990s.

And now the Swedish Ostrobothnians Association in Upplands Väsby has started dance band evenings again. At least for trial.

“There are a lot of people who are missed,” says Chairman of the Board Håkan Lundqvist.

He tells us that people came from Vasby and abroad to attend the folk dance evenings, which continued into the 2000s. But when Medborgarhuset closed, it stopped.

– Then we had to close. The municipality sought refuge in Messingen, but the rents there were very high. It’s not something a non-profit can afford.

So the idea came

Since then, there has been a drought in dancing in Vasby.

– People I meet in the city often wonder whether we should not continue with dance evenings. We were looking for places to work, believe me.

It was only when Håkan contacted Jari Juntunen at the Rönnerdahls restaurant in Bredden that the idea of holding a dance evening there occurred.

-He thought it was something fun we should try. They have big surfaces,” says Håkan Lundqvist.

Three in a row. Håkan Lönnqvist from the Swedish Östrobothnians Association in Upplands Väsby and Jari Juntunen, restaurateur at Rönnerdahls, are the initiators of the dance band evening in Bredden. Janie Martin is a Vasby resident and singer in the band that will get people on the dance floor.

Jan Martins on stage

The first show night will be October 28, and hungry people can grab a bite to eat from the buffet before heading to the dance floor.

The Jan Martins Dance Band plays with Vasby resident Jan Martin on vocals, guitar and sax. But he’s also originally from Österbotten, from Swedish-speaking Vasa in Finland.

“They did not cross the river for water,” he says, laughing.

He promised foxtrot, bug and chill songs.

-This will be great fun. Now we hope that Vasby residents and other people interested in dancing will join us, says Jan.

Hakan emphasizes that age has no meaning.

– We welcome everyone who loves dance band music.
