Norway’s leading duo promises school lunch and free free time

Jonas Gahr Støre and Trygv Slagsvold Widom, who lead the Labor Party (AP) and Center Party (SP), respectively, set Norway’s new direction at “Hurdal’s Stand”, displayed on Wednesday in scenic Hurdalsjøen, north of Oslo.

The two parties form a minority government after the September elections.

One of the promises in Hurdahl’s platform is that the overall level of taxes and fees will not change now that Norway has moved from a right-wing to a left-wing government.

The parties also state that they will continue to search for oil and gas for the next four years.

At the same time, the government has promised to achieve a 55 percent reduction in hazardous emissions to the climate and the environment by 2030, compared to the level of 1990. The target is in line with the European Union’s “Fit for 55” initiative.

Before school lunches

Lots of health, family and school related reforms have been included on the platform, reports NRK.

AP and SP have agreed to offer a “healthy and simple” school meal, which will replace the sandwiches many Norwegian schoolchildren now attend from home.

Young people aged 19-21 will get free dental care, and those aged 22-25 will have to pay only half of the dental care costs.

The new government also wants to gradually introduce fee-free recreational centers for all children in first grade, and lower the cap on pre-school fees.

The AP had 26.3 percent in the election and 13 percent from the Socialist Party, but Store notes the talks were even.

– We did not achieve this by fighting the Center Party, but on the contrary, we agreed on most matters, according to Norwegian media.

– It’s a platform that we are completely satisfied with.

Widom stresses that they also agree on all ministerial positions.

– It is distributed, and now everything is in place, according to the NTB news agency.

However, the leader of the Socialist Party asserts that the first outsider to see the list of ministers is King Harald. It is scheduled to be officially held in Oslo on Thursday morning, after which the government will be publicly presented.
