The Technical Committee has decided to extend a land reservation previously held at Norra Hamnen, Malmö Industrial Park, to the Swedish group TEXEL Energy Storage in order to increase the potential for construction.
In the first phase, the city of Malmö has reserved an area of 50,000 square meters for TEXEL to build an industrial plant. The reservation extended until December 31, 2022, but has now been extended to October 1, 2023. During this period, the work must continue to be established, which is done in cooperation with companies and agencies in the region. Financial support for the Foundation is being sought at regional, national and European levels.
The aim is to create a new hydrogen and energy storage plant and laboratory in Öresund as well as joint office operations for the entire operation. When fully developed, the plant is expected to cover an area of about 200,000 square meters and provide more than 6,000 jobs as well as large quantities of goods through the port.
– By actively working for more enterprises in North Harbor, we are opening up more job opportunities and promoting important industrial activities in the city. The plans for a factory and laboratory will contribute to the positive development of the area and to the creation of sustainable port operations in the future, says Andreas Schönström (S), chair of the technical council and member of the municipal council responsible for technology and services.
– The city of Malmö is working hard to see more institutions and collaborations in Northern Harbor, which is a prerequisite for finding smart solutions that in turn promote sustainable port and industrial operations. It has also contributed many important jobs to the city and cemented Malmö’s position as an engine of growth in the region, says Håkan Linné (left), vice-chairman of the Technical Committee.
– The establishment of Norra Hamnen’s TEXEL company is likely to involve several important steps in the transformation of Malmö. It will create many new green jobs, increase the amount of sea transportation and establish domestic production of batteries. Therefore, it is positive that we can now extend the reservation of the land so that the project can continue, says Stefana Hoti (MP), member of the technical committee.
