Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT Group) and Filmlance International, part of Banijay, are teaming up with Astrid Lindgren AB to produce the world-famous Astrid Lindgren story “Ronja Rövardotter” as a major Viaplay Original family fantasy series. “Ronga” is written by “Brunn” creator Hans Rosenfeld, directed by Lisa James Larson (“Victoria”) and will have groundbreaking visual effects. The series is a milestone in solidifying the NENT Group’s position as the leading producer of first-class Nordic content for local and international audiences. ‘Ronja’ presents an exclusive show on NENT Viaplay’s streaming service from 2023 with 12 episodes spread over two seasons.
Among Astrid Lindgren’s best-known books, Ronja Roverwater is also one of the world’s best-selling translated authors with over 75 published books. Her work has been translated into more than 100 languages and has sold over 165 million copies, and has been made in more than 70 feature films and television productions. In addition to Ronja Rövardotter, Astrid Lindgren has established Pippi Longstocking and Emil in Lönneberga and Barnen in Bråkmakargatan.
“Ronja” is about a girl born into a gang of thieves in a medieval Scandinavian castle and her adventures. As Ronga grows up, she discovers that the surrounding forest can be a magical and sometimes dangerous place filled with strange creatures. But when Ronja meets young boy Berk from a rival gang, it’s the beginning of a dark family feud, at the same time as a notorious Usher arrives to purge the thieves’ forest once and for all. Ronja and Berk escape into the jungle to try to survive on their own.

The cast of “Ronja” is ongoing and more information will come in due course. The Swedish-language series is produced by Sara Askiloff for the NENT group, with Bonnie Skoog Finney and Matthias Arjen (‘Björnstad’) as producers for Filmlance International.
