NATO General Pavel Winner in the Czech Republic

After 80 percent of the votes were counted, Pavel received 56.5 percent of the vote, and the country’s voters announced his victory.

According to Czech TV, there is a difference of just over 650,000 votes between Pavel and opposition candidate Andrej Babis. The former prime minister, one of the country’s richest men, who is often described as Donald Trump of the Czech Republic, temporarily gets 43.5 percent of the vote.

“We must solve problems together.”

In his first statement, Pavel thanked the voters for their trust and said that the result shows that the people voted for democracy. He promises to work with all Czechs, telling them to cross over any difference of opinion.

– We must solve problems together, as a community, and not remain divided, according to Czech ct24.

Slovak President Zuzana Caputova had previously congratulated Pavel on his victory, saying in a statement that decency and faith in truth prevail.

The result came entirely according to the latest opinion polls before the elections, which were conducted over two days, on Friday and Saturday.

Former NATO general

Peter Pavel is a former chief of defense with a background as a paratrooper. Between 2015 and 2018, he chaired NATO’s Supreme Military Council. However, from a political point of view, he is more and more anonymous. In the election campaign, he enlisted the support of the current government.

The President of the Czech Republic has mainly ceremonial duties, but he still plays an important role in appointing the government, the governor of the Central Bank and the Constitutional Court.
