Nashville won the NHL premiere in Prague

Awesome, what a start. It was a solid effort. I think we played well. When our game is right, it’s hard for us to face it, Nashville’s Matthias Ekholm tells Viaplay.

At the last minute, Finn Mikael Granlund was selfless. With an open goal, he passed sideways to Matt Duchene who made it 4-1. Filip Forsberg also got help with that goal.

– We created quite a few chances and could have scored two more, says Philip Forsberg, who himself had a few.

In the second period, Nashville paid. Finland’s Eli Tolvanen raced down the left wing and found a perfect gap in the far right 2-1 cross. Nino Niederretter boosted the score to 3-1 after a good collaboration with Dante Fabro, who hid a pass to goal.

After just 61 seconds, Nashville took the lead. Matthias Ekholm shot from the right and Kiefer Sherwood stayed ahead in the second leg and made it 1-0.

1-1 It was scored by San Jose’s Thomas Hertl at his old stadium since his days with Slavia Prague. The disc bounced to Hertl, who raised the disc at close range to the ceiling of the net. The roof was raised in the square and Hertel celebrated with the biggest smile of the evening and earned a lifelong memory.

Then it looked like San Jose was on the way.

– After our goal, we got to a higher level and played better and better. It feels good and I’ve joined the group with the system we play by,” San Jose’s Lindblom told Viaplay after the first period when it was 1-1 for his new club. He came from Philadelphia last summer.

He had a chance to score but he missed the chance.

– There was a lot of thinking rather than just shooting. I hope to get another chance so I can push it there, Lindblom said.

Tomorrow another match will be played at the same place. The NHL premieres in North America on Wednesday night Swedish time.
