Mophie Speedport 67 – fast charger with dual ports

Mophie Speedport 67 – fast charger with dual ports

Quick test

The Mophie fast charger is a smart solution, especially when you need to charge more than one mobile phone.

When Apple and Samsung stop sending chargers for mobile phones, it means that most mobile phones sold in Sweden do not come with chargers. Many people will likely continue to use the chargers they have for their old mobile phones, but old chargers are often much lower than new ones, which means the phone charges slower than it needs to. Older chargers are often made for cell phones with smaller batteries.

So there are points to buy a separate charger even if you have an old one, but then you have to make sure that it charges quickly, according to the USB PD standard.

I tested the Mophie Speedport 67, with a maximum output power of 67W, according to the USB PD standard. Not only is it enough to fast charge at the maximum possible speed supported by any iPhone or Samsung mobile phone, but it's actually also enough to charge most laptops with a USB C socket. So the Mophie Speedport 67 could be the only charger you need to take with you on the trip.

You often need to charge more than one device during a trip. The Speedport 67 has two USB C ports but the 67W power is split between the ports with a maximum of 45W + 22W. Therefore, you can charge two mobile phones at the same time using the charger as long as each has its own cord, but not the mobile phone and computer.

The charger doesn't have a regular USB socket, but you need a cable with a USB C port at the end. It does not come with any charging cable, so if you buy the cable separately, you should keep in mind that the cable also supports fast charging. It likely came with a cable for the phone when you purchased it, even if it didn't come with a charger, and this cable can handle the phone's maximum charging speed. I personally tested the charger using a cable that Mophie sells separately, which is a bit more sturdy with a solid cable with a cloth covering and metal contacts that probably don't fray as easily.

The Mophie Speedport 67 uses GaN technology, a chemical process that makes it possible to make lighter and more compact chargers. However, the Speedport 67 is too large and heavy for a mobile phone charger. Motorola has a more compact and lightweight charger that still has 67W of charging. But it doesn't have two ports, and if the Mophie Speedport 67 can replace two chargers, it's clearly more compact.
