Microsoft is developing its own system chips based on ARM

One of the openings is for a management position titled “Master System on Chip Silicon Architect” and the candidate needs to have experience designing high performance system circuits as well as CPU and GPU architecture design. Who gets the job will develop “complex, advanced manufacturing system circuits with groundbreaking processes” and work closely with internal and external partners.

Other entries apply to positions with titles such as “Senior Physical Design Verification Engineer,” “Principal Design Engineer,” and “Senior Manager Silicon Power CAD Integration.” Most job advertisements have now been removed, possibly in response to what is being written about them in the media.

According to Windows Latest, the development of proprietary system circuits may be related to the development of Windows 12. The upcoming new system version, expected to be released in late 2024, should include more AI features and improvements to machine learning circuits. The ARM-based chips from Apple, Qualcomm, and Samsung all have this type of circuitry, but Microsoft has the ability, like Apple, to produce hardware specifically optimized for its own software, in this case Bing-AI.
