Presenter of The Grand Tour, and former presenter of Top Gear, James May has demolished two houses in Hammersmith so he can build one luxury property in their place.
May has been living in one of the houses for several years and bought the property next door in 2014. He obtained planning permission to demolish both properties in 2016 and work is now underway on the new property. Once completed it is said that May’s new home will be worth around £3m.
May received particular
praise in the Daily Mail report for the way in which he has conducted extensive
consultations with neighbours on plans for his new home. It is said that, after
initial concerns, neighbours have been very supportive and believe the new
property will enhance the street.
That a London-based celebrity is carrying out a luxury redevelopment project is not particularly unusual. What is, perhaps, unusual is the way May has consulted with neighbours – something which many fail to do and then wonder why their schemes are opposed.
