Live fully and increase your chances of a longer, healthier life
There is a revolution going on. More and more people are wondering whether or not our age is predetermined. What can we do to enhance our well-being, live more meaningfully and extend our lives? What if the diseases we associate with aging are not the main problem? After the global success achieved by the book Health revolution (Followed by a series of health books in the same series) Science journalist and author Maria Borelius is back with the new bookLongevity revolution. What can we learn from ancient scientists and medical traditions and from the blue zones where people live the longest?
For seven years, she solved the puzzle, explored, and traveled around all the world's Blue Zones and interviewed some of the world's leading experts in the field. In the book, the reader can share his accumulated knowledge and get a demo program designed specifically for those who want to develop their own longevity strategy.
Maria Borelius met the researchers leading the scientific work in the field of longevity – in epidemiology, cell biology, genetics, nutrition, and anthropology, as well as specialists such as physiologists, philosophers, brain scientists, dermatologists, cardiologists, and demographers. She also visited the Gray Zone, the European city where the shortest people live, and the stone desert of Glasgow.
– I zoomed in with several different glasses, talked to the most knowledgeable and longest-lived people themselves, and after a while the insight appeared. We should be humble about our genes, but there is a lot we can do ourselves that will increase our chances of a longer, healthier life. Among other things, it is about fasting, certain forms of exercise, supporting the intestinal flora, finding a deep community and developing a maximally positive outlook on life, says Maria Borelius.
The book contains 10 plus 4 great tips. The top ten have a more solid scientific basis, and the last four are more advanced, for those who want to test. Maria has collected facts and inspiration from the world's five Blue Zones. In Europe, they are both located in the Mediterranean Sea, in Sardinia and in Greece on the island of Ikaria. Asia has one on the island of Okinawa. On the American continent, there is Loma Linda in California and the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica.
-I met lively seniors and felt unusually at home. This super earthly life is not only realistic, but also vital and full of life force. They're happy, cheerful, optimistic, and yes, almost wrinkle-free. I worked with them, cooked and lifted their pot lids, sang and exercised with them, looked into the gardens, built fences and burned incense on their altars. They are healthy, active and living life to the fullest along the way. And with great joy. These people and their way of life hold many important clues, says Maria Borelius.
