Manchester Gets UK’s Biggest Aparthotel

Aparthotel operator Native has made its Manchester debut with the opening of Ducie Street Warehouse which it says is the largest aparthotel in the UK.

The Grade II listed property, close to Manchester Piccadilly station, comprises 158 studio, one bed and two bed apart-hotel suites plus an all day lounge, mini-cinema, coffee shop, restaurant, private meeting and dining rooms and outdoor terraces.  It also features offerings from restauranteur Bistroteque and boutique fitness group BLOK to create what is called ‘a unique and exciting ground floor destination for Manchester.’

Guy Nixon, Founder & CEO of Native, said: “Ducie Street Warehouse is a new breed of lifestyle focused UK aparthotel. We wanted it to be a location that attracts Manchester’s residents and workers alike as well as overnight guests. To do so, we recognised the need to bring on board outstanding operators that had the ability to activate 20,000 sq ft of ground floor space.”

Serviced accommodation is currently something of a hot sector, and Native’s choice of Manchester is further evidence of the buoyant state of the commercial market here. Savills says that growth in the serviced apartments business outpaced growth in hotels for the first seven months of 2019. They say that investor appetite for serviced apartment assets is growing and that there is still ‘significant room for stock growth’ as serviced apartments still only account for 3.5% of total hospitality accommodation in the UK lagging more mature markets in the US and Asia Pacific.
