French President Emmanuel Macron’s party “La République en marche” (Republic on the Road – LREM) has officially changed its name to “Renaissance” (Renaissance / Rebirth – RE), TT reports.
New electoral alliance since May
In May, the name was launched ahead of the French parliamentary elections when the party established an electoral alliance with liberal Mo Dem and the centre-right Horizons party. RE continues its collaboration with coalition parties and also grows when two other small parties join the party.
“breakpoint”
The party’s new direction was voted on during the party conference at the Louvre Museum in Paris on Saturday.
– We are in a revolutionary period. A turning point as the president said, Prime Minister Elizabeth Bourne said at the conference according to Le Monde newspaper.
We are determined to weather these major upheavals and even use them as fuel at times during a period when some changes are no longer an option.
The future without Macron
Macron himself is not the leader of the new party, he is called the honorary president. Instead, Stephane Sigourney, a member of the European Parliament and a close aide to Macron, will become the party’s new leader.
According to French media, change is a way for the party to consolidate its power and at the same time prepare for a future without Macron.
