In a move which is said to be the largest recruitment drive in the construction industry for over a decade Weston Homes Plc has announced that it is recruiting 350 new staff over the next 18-24 months.
The company’s recruitment drive is aimed at providing the human resources needed to double its size within five years. Its new employees will be working on an upcoming £2bn (at GDV) new homes development pipeline totalling 7,200 new homes.
The recruitment drive will be supported by an extensive multi-million pound recruitment campaign. Over the next six months the company will be using advertisements, recruitment videos, radio advertising, bus adverts, billboards, site hoardings and social media.
The company will also hold recruitment fairs in Birmingham, Manchester and Bristol this autumn.
The jobs on offer include engineering, planning and design, technical, commercial and construction at various experience levels. Around a third of the new jobs will be site-based. The remainder will be at the company’s head office.
The new roles provide the usual industry standard range of employee benefits including a company car or car allowance depending on role, pensions with 10% employer contribution and private family health care schemes. The company also offer enhanced benefits. These include enhanced maternity/paternity pay, retirement gratuity, discounted home purchase and vouchers to celebrate weddings, civil partnerships and the birth of a child.
Weston Homes will also be operating an innovative ‘recommend a friend’ type referral scheme. Existing employees will be able to earn up to £2,500 if they introduce a friend or contact who is subsequently recruited. This could potentially see £875,000 paid out to the company’s current employees.
Announcing the recruitment drive Bob Weston, Chairman & CEO of Weston Homes, said: “Whilst Stamp Duty may have slowed the super-prime sector (homes priced above £10m) of the housing market, our core business, which focuses on starter and family homes for domestic purchasers is booming.
“One of the biggest challenges facing us and the wider construction industry at present is finding new staff, hence the huge recruitment drive and nationwide campaign we are rolling out over the coming months.”
Established in 1987 and headquartered in London and Stansted Weston Homes Plc operates across outer London, the Home Counties and the south east. It focuses its activities on what it calls ‘rapidly growing hubs’ including Cambridge, Peterborough, Reading and Dartford.
Weston Homes has in-house divisions handling design, planning, manufacturing and construction. In November 2018 the company is scheduled to open an advanced 75,000 sq.ft. automotive industry-style computer monitored and robotised distribution centre near Stansted. The centre will be used to assemble and supply building materials to its sites and 45 jobs will be created there.
