LG has started rolling out ads on its smart TVs when they're in sleep mode. This change means that your LG TV will display ads before the screen saver is activated. according to Ars Technica LG did not notify consumers of the changes, instead providing the features to advertisers.
TV side HD flat panels I also spotted the ads while reviewing one of the company's latest G4 OLED TV models. The advertisements may be for LG's own products and services or for third parties. According to FlatpanelsHD, ads are set to be enabled by default. If you want to avoid ads, you can go to Settings and turn off ads in the screen saver, as well as other ads that may appear while watching TV.
According to Ars Technica, LG's advertising division, LG Ad Solutions, created the ads. The division aspires to display ads on home screens and LG channels on LG smart TV models, among others.
In recent years, TV manufacturers have inserted advertising in several places in their TV models, and this does not seem to be going away in the near future. Currently, Apple TV is one of the few options left if you want an ad-free TV experience.
