The national “Get the HPV Shot” campaign and research study is a campaign in which women born between 1994-1999 are offered free vaccines and tests against the virus that causes cervical cancer, called human papillomavirus (HPV).
Since 2020, eliminating cervical cancer has been a global priority goal, and the study therefore investigates whether eliminating HPV and cervical cancer can occur faster by systematically introducing vaccination and screening.
Kronoberg is the best in the country
To date, Kronoberg is the area where the highest number of people have been vaccinated against HPV in the country, with 42% of them vaccinated.
“We started vaccinating and spreading the message early and the health centers did a really great job,” says Lisa Oberg, study coordinator in the Kronoberg district.
Each region uses different methods to reach as many people as possible, and in Kronoberg they used different methods
– Among other things, we used the Kivra app to reach as many people as possible, and we also went to universities and campuses in Växjö and Ljungby to exchange information about vaccination, says Lisa Oberg, who coordinates the study in the Kronoberg region.
Kalmar County just after Kronoberg
The aim of the study is for 70% of women between 1994 and 1999 to be vaccinated, something the Kronoberg region is working to achieve.
– We will start enabling women to get vaccinated at the gynecology clinics in Växjö and Ljungby in December in order to reach those who have not yet been vaccinated, says Lisa Oberg, who is coordinating the study in the Kronoberg region.
In Kalmar County, 28.4% of women between 1994 and 1999 have been vaccinated against HPV to date.
